About

The Workshop

Professor E. Sampathkumar (10 June 1936 - 11 August 2024) is a professor emeritus of graph theory from the University of Mysore. He has contributed to domination number, bipartite double cover, and reconstruction theory, as well as other areas of graph theory. He was chairman of the Department of Mathematics of the Karnataka University, Dharwar and the University of Mysore (1992–95).
Professor E. Sampathkumar is the first one in India to teach Graph Theory as a subject in any of the Indian universities. He introduced it as a special paper in 1970-71 for MSc Mathematics students at Karnatak University, Dharwad. Per Google Scholar, his H-index is 21 and he has over 1500 citations. Since 2005, his birthday, June 10, has been celebrated as Graph Theory Day in India.

The Sridharacharya Academy of Mathematical Sciences is organizing a one-day workshop on Graph Theory, free of charge, to pay homage to the late Prof. E. Sampathkumar. This event serves as a tribute to his profound contributions to the field of mathematics, especially in graph theory, and aims to inspire participants to engage deeply with this area of study.

The Academy

The Sridharacharya Academy of Mathematical Sciences (SAAMS) is a registered professional organization established in 2024 in honour of Sridharacharya, a renowned Indian mathematician, known for his two surviving works on arithmetic and practical mathematics, Pāṭīgaṇita and Pāṭīgaṇita-sāra, and a now-lost treatise on algebra, Bījagaṇita. SAAMS is dedicated to advancing active and high-quality research in various branches of mathematics and fostering intellectual and cultural development. The academy has nurtured a vibrant research culture among mathematicians in India.

SAAMS is committed to promoting mathematical research that has real-world applications. The organization believes in the power of mathematics to solve complex problems and drive innovation in various fields such as technology, engineering, economics, and social sciences. By fostering creativity and critical thinking, SAAMS aims to expand the possibilities in mathematical research:

OBJECTIVES:

(a) To encourage and promote research in the form of workshops, seminars, and conferences.
(b) To write, compile, and publish journals, books, and reports in mathematical sciences.
(c) To promote mathematical study in schools.
(d) To provide awards to distinguished persons in different categories.
(e) To provide certificates to scientists in a globally recognized database.
(f) To establish a forum among researchers of mathematical sciences to exchange ideas through regular periodic meetings.
(g) To organize seminars on career counselling.
(h) To involve and support social work directly.
(i) To connect with faculty related to mathematical sciences globally.
